About Us
Wo-Gi Foundation is a love-child of the founder Zeenath Reza Khan. Zeenath comes from a long line of teachers. When she graduated with a Bachelor degree in 2000, she set out to change the world. Then she realised the world was too big, too old and too set in its ways. She settled for making small changes in every day lives of women and girls - one story at a time.
In 2002, we began interviewing women and girls, everywhere we found them. A vivid pattern began to form. Every woman, every girl had a story to tell, but often no one to tell it to. Some stories were inspiring. Some stories were heart breaking. Some stories were simply - life. But all stories were extraordinary in their own ways.
By 2004, we began working with women expat labourers, often facing off families, employers, even officials.
By 2008, we became ever-more determined to make a difference but facing obstacles and barriers at every step of the way.
By 2010, we hit one jackpot - getting down to the root - changing minds, breaking barriers by educating parents and daughters together
In 2013, we were shocked and heart-broken by the devastation of the Rana Plaza building collapse in Savar, Bangladesh that brought the plight of garment workers sharply to focus, forcing us to look at ethical consumerism as a way forward
In 2016, we realised that the 'power to choose' needed to be shifted back to the women, so they could make decisions, and increase their living standards through awareness, education and knowledge.
Today, Wo-Gi Foundation, a not-for-profit effort works through the voluntary-services provided by men and women in whatever capacity they can help, to make women and girls' lives better, more enlightened and towards equality and equity in society for all.
